چکیده

Estimation of wind erosion rates of Mongolian Plateau by using 137Cs tracing technique. Wind erosion is one of the major environmental problems in semi-arid and arid regions. Here we established a transect from northwest (Tariat, Mongolia) to southeast (Xilingol, Inner Mongolia of China) across the Mongolian Plateau, and selected eight sampling sites along the transect. We then estimated the soil wind erosion rates by using the 137Cs tracing technique and examined their spatial dynamics. In the Mongolia section (from Tariat to Sainshand), the wind erosion rate increased gradually with vegetation type and climatic regimes; the wind erosion process was controlled by physical factors such as annual precipitation and vegetation coverage, etc. While in the China section (Inner Mongolia), the wind erosion rates of Xilinhot, Zhengxiangbai Banner and Taipusi Banner were thrice as much as those of Bayannur of Mongolia, although these four sites were all dominated by typical steppe. Besides the physical factors, higher population density and livestock carrying level should be responsible for the higher wind erosion rates in these regions of

Using 137Cs Technique to Investigate Soil Redistribution Rates by Portable HPGe (Case Studies, Kachik Paired Subcatchments)

137Cs technique for determining soil particles redistribution is of tremendous importance considered by most soil and water conservation experts. Due to time and monetary limitations for spectrometry in the lab, a portable High Pure Germanium Detector was used in this study. For this, Kachik paired subcatchments were chosen and 60 positions in each subcatchment were used for spectrometry analys...

Selection of Appropriate Conversion Model for 137CS Method in Erosion and Sediment Studies In Loess Deposits in North-East of Iran

Soil erosion is one of the effective elements on soil destruction. Many empirical and theoretical models has been developed for soil erosion estimation 137 Cs technique is used as new and accurate method in this case across world. For applying this technique on computing erosion and sediment rate, an appropriate conversion model should be selected. For this propose in this study proportional, m...

Application of Radioactive Fallout Cesium-137 for Measuring Soil Erosion and Sediment Accumulation Rates and Patterns: A Review

Radioactive fallout 137CS (cesium-137) deposited across the landscape from atmospheric nuclear tests is strongly absorbed on soil particles limiting its movement by chemical and biological processes. Most 137CS movement in the environment is by physical processes; therefore, 137CS is a unique tracer for studying erosion and sedimentation. Cesium-137 loss from a watershed has been shown to corre...

The Influence of Soil Properties on the Wind Erosion Rate at Different Regions of Kerman Province

Wind erosion is known as one of the most important land degradation aspects, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. Soil properties, by affecting soil erodibility, can control the wind erosion rate. The aim of this study was to attribute the soil physical and chemical properties to the wind erosion rate for the purpose of determining the most important property. To this aim, wind erosion r...
